On September 16, BLACKPINK released their second full album, "BORN PINK," and the music video for the title track "Shut Down." The music video quickly hit 50 million views within 24 hours of release. In addition, "Shut Down" received praise from internet users for showcasing BLACKPINK's maturity in music.

However, soon after the "Shut Down" music video was released, some scenes were suspected of being plagiarized. Specifically, some scenes were highly similar to Hong Kong girl group COLLAR's music video for "OFF/ON."
Some internet users shared screenshots of similar scenes in the two music videos on social media, which quickly garnered attention. One significant similarity is Jennie's scene in the bathtub, which was also seen in COLLAR's music video.

BLACKPINK's pre-release single "Pink Venom," which was released on August 19, was also under scrutiny after it was noticed the song bore an uncanny resemblance to Rihanna's "Pon de Replay," 50 Cent's "P.I.M.P," and Notorious BIG's "Kick in the Door," both in melody and lyrics.
