Red Velvet Seulgi's '28 Reasons' Becomes Album With Highest First Day Sales by Female Solo Artist in 2022

Recently on October 4, Red Velvet member Seulgi made her highly-anticipated debut as a solo artist, after eight years of her being in the industry following her debut with Red Velvet back in August 2014. With her solo debut, Seulgi became the third member of the group to venture into solo music activities, following Wendy and Joy.

Seulgi made her solo debut with her first mini album entitled "28 Reasons," which contains a total of six tracks: the title track "28 Reasons," and b-sides "Dead Man Runnin," "Bad Boy, Sad Girl," "Anywhere But Home," "Los Angeles," and "Crown."

Following the release of her mini album, as well as the title track and its accompanying music video, Seulgi set a new career record in terms of first day sales with "28 Reasons."

According to the data released by Hanteo Chart on October 5 KST, "28 Reasons" had reportedly recorded a total of 134,682 album copies sold in just the first day of its release. Naturally, this also set a new career record for Seulgi herself, proving the success of her solo debut.

In addition to that, "28 Reasons" has also set the record of becoming the album released in 2022 that sold the most copies in just the first day of its release by a female K-pop solo artist.

Previously, the title was held by TWICE member Nayeon, who also made her solo debut with "IM NAYEON" back in June of this year. At the time, Nayeon had recorded more than 123,000 album copies sold in its first day of release.

Seulgi's achievements doesn't end there. With "28 Reasons" recording 134,682 album copies sold, this also means that "28 Reasons" has become the fourth best-selling album by a female Korean solo artist in Hanteo Chart's first day sales history.

Seulgi's "28 Reasons" follows behind BLACKPINK Lisa's "LALISA," which sold 330,129 album copies; BLACKPINK Rosé's "-R-," which sold 282,674 album copies; and IU's "Lilac," which sold 216,318 album copies.

'28 Reasons' Sees Success on Global Music Charts

Aside from her album sales, Seulgi's solo songs are also seeing success on global music charts.

Over on iTunes, "28 Reasons" debuted on the iTunes Album Chart at No. 3, and peaked at No. 1 on October 4 local time. The album also entered the chart in more than 14 other countries and regions, including the United States, Brazil, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and more.

On the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart and the European iTunes Album Chart, the album entered at No. 1. The title track "28 Reasons" also debuted at No. 1 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart.
