'2022 Genie Music Awards' Cancels Over 1 Million Votes for BLACKPINK + BLINKs Enraged
The 2022 Genie Music Awards will hold its first in-person ceremony for the first time in three years on Nov. 8 at Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon. At present, fans of each of the nominees are busy casting their votes.
Voting kicked off on Oct. 6 and is open to those with an official Korean ID or a Korean phone number until Nov. 3. While most categories are only open to local fans, the GMA (Genie Music Awards) Idol Plus Global Popularity Award is open to all fans around the world.
A total of 36 artists are nominated for the GMA Idol Plus Global Popularity Award, including BTS, SEVENTEEN, BLACKPINK, PSY, Stray Kids, ATEEZ, IVE, NewJeans, and many more.

Amid the voting session, the 2022 Genie Music Awards released a formal notice, which upset many fans.
On Oct. 19, GMA announced that they will cancel votes for BLACKPINK and PSY, as Genie Music noticed "abnormal traffic" that they "recognized as fraudulent votes." As a result, they revoked 1,627,041 votes from BLACKPINK and 306,908 votes from PSY.
The decision led fans, particularly BLINKs, to feel furious as they have been keeping track of the votes for the "Pink Venom" singers and they saw how the votes had been consistently increasing over time, which appeared to contrast with Genie Music's claim that there was an abnormal traffic.
I wonder how 🧞♂️ came to the conclusion that BLACKPINK's votes were fake. It was consistently increasing since the votings started, even @BLACKPINK_BBU is documenting it. All those efforts down the drain 'cause BLACKPINK was almost winning.

Prior to revoking the votes, BLACKPINK ranked third with more than 1.7 million votes, but after the 2022 Genie Music Awards took away the majority of the votes, the quartet dropped to fifth place.
BLINKs were dumbfounded, wondering how 1.7 million votes could be considered an irregular high number when the poll was open to fans across the globe. And everyone knows that BLACKPINK is one of the global girl groups, so it's not a surprise that they'll earn more than a million of votes.
