Most idols spent a handful of years training to become an idol. Some, however, give up their whole childhood to train. Here are five K-pop idols who spent an extremely long time as trainees.

1. (G)I-DLE Miyeon

Miyeon trained for eight years before making her debut with (G)I-DLE on August 14, 2018.

Miyeon first became a trainee under YG Entertainment around 2010, which is nearly the same time BLACKPINK's Jennie joined the label. She trained under the company for five years before leaving in 2015.

She spent two years as an independent trainee and as a freelance singer. She joined CUBE Entertainment in 2017.

2. NCT Johnny

Johnny trained for eight years before debuting with NCT 127 on January 6, 2017.

Johnny was accepted into SM Entertainment through the company's global auditions in Chicago in 2007. He trained with EXO members until they started preparing to debut. The reason why Johnny spent a long time training because he would go back and forth between Chicago and Seoul to complete his studies.

He was one of two new additions to NCT 127 during the group's "LIMITLESS" comeback.

3. TWICE Jihyo

Jihyo trained for ten years before debuting with TWICE on October 20, 2015.

Jihyo started training under JYP Entertainment in 2005 when she was just eight years old and in third grade. She was initially set to debut 6MIX between 2014 and 2015 with other JYP trainees (including future TWICE members Nayeon, Jeongyeon, and Sana), but the group was ultimately scrapped.

Jihyo debuted in TWICE after competing on the survival show "SIXTEEN."

4. EVERGLOW Aisha

Aisha trained for 11 years before debuting with EVERGLOW on March 18, 2019.

Aisha first started training under JYP Entertainment in 2008. She trained under the company for nine years, joining several showcases with earned her attention from the public eye. She left JYP Entertainment in 2017 and soon signed with Yuehua Entertainment.

She trained under Yuehua Entertainment for two years before her debut.

5. Billlie Moon Sua

Moon Sua trained for 12 years before debuting with Billlie on November 10, 2021.

Moon Sua most likely entered YG Entertainment in 2009 and was part of the company's trainee group Future 2NE1. In 2015, she competed in "Unpretty Rapstar 2" as a YG Entertainment trainee. She left the company in 2019 after nearly ten years as a trainee.

She then signed with MYSTIC Story and was officially revealed as a member of MYSTIC Rookies in February 2020.
