DKZ Jaechan Reveals He Considered Leaving Industry Before Starring in "Semantic Error"

From February to March this year, DKZ Jaechan appeared on the BL drama "Semantic Error," playing one of the male lead characters named Chu Sang Woo. This role earned him and his group more attention from the public.

As a matter of fact, several of DKZ's past songs- including "LUPIN" and "CRAZY NIGHT"- climbed up the Korean music charts. The group's first-week sales on the Hanteo Chart even surpassed 100,000 for the first time, demonstrating the massive growth of their popularity.

What's more, DKZ achieved their very first music show win on "The Show" since their debut with their latest comeback song "Uh-Heung."

DKZ has since been receiving much more love and support from the public thanks to the success of the BL drama.

However, little do many fans know that DKZ Jaechan considered quitting the celebrity life before starring in "Semantic Error."

On the Oct. 29 episode of JTBC's music show "K-909," DKZ appeared as the latest guest. The members were seen preparing for their special performance at one point. But prior to performing, the members' interview was presented.

During the talk, DKZ Jaechan said, "Hi, I'm Jaechan, who wants to be remembered as DKZ's rapper Jaechan on stage rather than Chu Sang Woo in 'Semantic Error'."

He then recalled the time he received an offer to take on the role of Chu Sang Woo in the hit BL drama.

The idol-actor shared, "When I landed the role in 'Semantic Error', my agency asked me to think about it again, because its story is about two guys falling in love with each other. Since I'm in the K-pop scene, they told me that I should be a little cautious. But the genre didn't bother me, and I wasn't afraid to act in it."

DKZ Jaechan went on to say that he decided to appear in the series, as he considered it as his last chance in the industry. He continued, "In fact, I was thinking about giving everything up and leaving the industry for good before being in 'Semantic Error'."

Then, the "Cupid" rapper explained what made him think of going back to an ordinary life, saying, "For nearly three years after debut, I wasn't making any progress here. Our group wasn't really going anywhere either. I wanted to keep trying, but those long days made me feel too exhausted."

He added, "So' Semantic Error' was like a gift to me and our group. I never thought it would become such a great hit though."

DKZ Jaechan concluded, "Thanks to 'Semantic Error', I was able to get my name out there and receive a lot of love and support. People also found out about our group, and they started rooting for us. I'm really happy about that."

DKZ's Latest Comeback

On Oct. 6, DKZ made their comeback with their seventh single album "CHASE EPISODE 3. BEUM," which features the title track "Uh-Heung" that contains lyrics written by Jaechan.

"CHASE EPISODE 3. BEUM" sold a total of 79,373 copies in the first week of its release, becoming the group's second-highest first-week sales on the Hanteo Chart, bested only by "CHASE EPISODE 2. MAUM."
