AKMU Suhyun Refuses to Play THIS Song That Fan Requested During 'Kim Shin Young's Noon Song of Hope' Broadcast

On Nov. 14, AKMU Suhyun acted as a special DJ on MBC FM4U's "Kim Shin Young's Noon Song of Hope" to fill in for DJ Kim Shin Young, who is currently on a four-week vacation in celebration of the radio show's 10th anniversary.

During the "Tail-to-Tail Song" section of the radio program, the female idol received a request from a listener asking her to play a song, particularly AKMU's "Is It Ramen?". Upon seeing it, she sighed and talked about how old the track is.

She said:

"This seems to be a song from about nine years ago. Because 'Don't Cross Your Legs' marks its 10th anniversary [this year], and 'Is It Ramen?' came out the following year, so I think it's a song from nine years ago."

For starters, "Is It Ramen?" is one of the popular songs of AKMU (Akdong Musician) during their teenage days. Member Chanhyuk wrote the track while he was eating ramen. It was released in February 2013 but it was initially performed in the competition show "K-pop Star 2," where they finished in first place (which earned them contracts to become artists at YG Entertainment).

This year, the song marked its ninth anniversary. But it isn't about how old the track is that made AKMU Suhyun decide not to play it during "Kim Shin Young's Noon Song of Hope" broadcast. It's because of how her voice sounded at that time.

She explained that she wanted her voice to sound unique but she just couldn't hear it, hence, she didn't want to listen to it and eventually refused to play it.

Suhyun stated:

"Should I say it's an ugly past? If you listen to it, you'll think it's cute, but there's a voice that only I know. I think I wanted to sound unique when I was young, but I just couldn't hear it. I appreciate your request, but I won't play the song."

Meanwhile, AKMU Suhyun was a special DJ for "Kim Shin Young's Noon Song of Hope" for only two days, from Nov. 14 to 15. EXID Solji will take over from the 16th to the 20th, and then singer Nabi will host the program from the 21st to Dec. 11.
