Following this year's MMA and MAMA Awards, (G)I-DLE garnered huge interest for "sniping" at the two ceremonies for THIS reason. What happened?

(G)I-DLE Garners Attention For 'Dissing' MMA & MAMA

On December 1, girl group (G)I-DLE sparked discussion on various online communities and social media sites for what they did following the two awards ceremonies, MelOn Music Awards (MMA) and Mnet Asian Music Awards (hereinafter MAMA Awards).

On November 30, (G)I-DLE garnered various reactions for reportedly "dissing" the 2022 MAMA Awards, held at Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan.

The group's leader Jeon Soyeon appeared on stage in an intense red 'fit and rapped:

"What kind of award will you give this year, MAMA? We know who this year's syndrome is. (We) refuse the award that was specially created. (We are) New Generation."

Following the performance, fans interpreted the lyrics as a diss to MAMA, who often offer awards that are not originally in the annual categories.

Due to this, Minnie's post during MMA also resurfaced.

On November 26, (G)I-DLE attended the show and took home the trophies Top 10 Artist and Best Music Video for their track "TOMBOY."

Minnie amassed curiosity after uploading a selfie in her now-deleted post on the Instagram story saying, "Is it for real hahaha?"

People who saw this post speculated that it was intended for the organizers of MMA to see, questioning their announcement of winners.

People Speculate Reasons (G)I-DLE Is Angry

In particular, the girl group was nominated for Daesang (Grand Prize) categories in both MMA and MAMA , such as Artist of the Year (AOTY), Song of the Year (SOTY), and Album of the Year for "I Never Die."

However, they failed to take home any of the grand prizes from the two award ceremonies.

People who saw (G)-IDLE's Minnie's post guessed that it was her way to express anger for not receiving the grand prize.

In regard to Soyeon's diss lyrics, Neverlands speculated that she might have introduced the lyrics in anticipation of the failure to bag the grand prize again this time.

According to them, although the winner IVE and their song "LOVE DIVE" deserved the award, it can't be denied that (G)I-DLE's "TOMBOY" is not only a commercial success but a global hit. The song didn't only top MelOn's TOP 100 but also entered the US Billboard's Global 200.

The song also created a viral dance challenge on TikTok and was also loved even by K-pop idols.

As such, the K-pop scene anticipated (G)I-DLE to win the Daesang SOTY based on chart predictions, and even Shuhua also conveyed high expectation through her bubble, saying:

"I'm not nervous, we have to get the Daesang. I came to get the Daesang, so why would I be nervous?"

Unfortunately, (G)I-DLE failed to clinch the award; thus, people are guessing that the group is conveying their frustration after what happened.
