NCT Dream's 'Candy' Pop-Up Stores Attract Thousands of Buyers- Here's How Long the Lines Were

On Dec. 16, NCT Dream released their winter special mini-album "Candy," which contains the remake of H.O.T.'s 1996 hit song "Candy."

In honor of the album's release, SM Entertainment launched pop-up stores in Hongdae and Yeonhui-dong on the 20th where fans can purchase the physical version of "Candy" and other official merchandise. The goods were also made available at the company's flagship store "Kwangya@Seoul" in Seongsu-dong.

Each store started to see a line of buyers at dawn even in the cold weather. And at around 10 a.m. KST on the 20th, right before the opening, the lines were already 200 meters long. According to NEWSIS, about 3,000 people went to the stores on the first day alone.

NEWSIS also reported that since Dec. 20 was the day when NCT Dream's "Candy" was available for purchase at offline stores nationwide, large music stores in Seoul - such as those in Gwanghwamun, Gangnam, and Jamsil- drew hundreds of fans three hours before the stores' opening, creating a sea of people.

The Korean media outlet further stated that some fans ordered the album in advance through reservation, however, they received notices from sellers that the delivery will be delayed due to insufficient supply. This goes to show how quickly the album went out of stock.

The massive popularity of NCT Dream's "Candy" was initially proven in the number of stock pre-orders it recorded. On Dec. 19, it was announced that the EP surpassed 2,004,000 pre-orders as of Dec. 18, which is an amazing feat for a winter special album. This implies that the group will again attain a "double million-seller" title.

Other than that, "Candy" ranked first on iTunes Album charts in at least 17 different regions around the world one day after its release. It even obtained an official platinum certification from QQ Music in China for gathering one million yuan.
