Sandara Acknowledges NewJeans as 'Second' 2NE1 – Here's Why

On January 10, MBC FM4U's "Kim Shin Young's Hope Song at Noon" introduced Sandara Park, former 2NE1 member and entertainment industry's representative icon, as its special guest.

During the live radio show, DJ Kim and Dara showed off their close friendship. Here, the latter also showcased her eloquence, candidly answering questions.

Dara then drew attention when she was asked if there is a girl group that she currently has her eye on and will possibly follow in 2NE1's footsteps.

With this, Sandara Park, without hesitation, picked NewJeans as the "second" 2NE1. She stated that the quintet is her favorite group as of the moment.

The "I AM THE BEST" singer explained:

"There are a lot of really good juniors like BLACKPINK, but NewJeans, there is a freshness of rookies. While watching NewJeans perform at an event a while ago, I had a conversation with SHINee Key and asked, 'Don't they remind you of our debut?'

I think all senior (groups) will feel it, but there is a fresh and touching feeling (from NewJeans) that will make them feel nostalgic at the time of their debut."

NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein) debuted in August 2022 under Min Hee Jin's ADOR, HYBE's sub-label.

Since their debut, they created consecutive hits "Attention," "Hype Boy," "Ditto," and "OMG."

This also reminded K-pop fans of 2NE1's success when they debuted in 2009, immediately creating various iconic songs "Fire," "I don't care," "Lollipop," and "Pretty Boy."

While on the topic, Dara also recalled the surprise reunion of 2NE1 in Coachella 2022, saying:

"We gathered after a long time, and I didn't know all four of us would work so hard. While watching it, I was also moved, and I felt, 'We have waited a long time for this moment. We are definitely beasts."

Dara Confirms Solo Album Release in 2023

As the broadcast went on, Dara was also asked about her future plans in the music scene. While there are still K-pop fans waiting for the comeback of 2NE1, the singer hinted she would return solo first.

Since 2021 and when she was still in YG Entertainment, Dara has been talking about releasing her solo album, but it didn't happen until she transferred to Abyss Company.

Dara finally confirmed its prospective release date, stating:

"It's coming out this summer. It will be released this summer. Perhaps the image fits well with the season. It's refreshing and lively."
