(G)I-DLE Mentions Soojin's Withdrawal From Group, Confesses Feelings During Hiatus

"It was the hardest time since our debut." In a broadcast, (G)I-DLE members recalled their feelings after Soojin left, which also caused their one-year hiatus.

(G)I-DLE Soyeon Indirectly Mentions Soojin's Withdrawal + Story Behind 'TOMBOY'

On March 29, popular girl group (G)I-DLE, along with K-pop legendary icon Psy, appeared on Mnet's "Mnet PRIME SHOW" and presented various performances.

On this day, the two artists presented special stages of their respective hit tracks as well as covers of each artist's songs.

During the off-stage interview, (G)I-DLE talked about the process of preparing for their stages, but what captured viewers' attention was when Soyeon indirectly mentioned Soojin's departure from the group, revealing her true feelings.

In particular, after Soojin's school violence controversy that led her to finally leaving (G)I-DLE in August 2021, the group took a break for than a year, halting their activities as a group, especially in South Korea.

With this, Soyeon hinted at her true feelings after it happened, and expressed her concerns when (G)I-DLE re-organized as a quintet.

"In manhwas (comic books) and movies, there is no case where one of the main characters changes or disappeared. I think it's hard for the drama to go well if one of the main characters suddenly falls out. (We also) thought it might be hard for it to go well again."

Contrary to her worries, the five-member group who made a comeback with "TOMBOY" in March 2022 after a long break, actually experienced massive popularity both at home and abroad, finally cementing their status as a top fourth-gen girl group.

Soyeon then opened up about what was running in her mind when she decided to write the hit track, saying:

"I thought, 'I have to make it this time. I should really write the best song I can.' I think I have this thought a lot (at the time), 'Whether it creates a good view or bad feedback, they will pay attention to us at least once. If we do well, then we can really do well.'

I felt like this one thing determines our lives."

(G)I-DLE Confesses Honest Feelings on Group's Hiatus

As the broadcast went on, the other members also opened up about their feelings and thoughts when (G)I-DLE took break from the K-pop scene.

Minnie shared:

"I think it was the hardest time since my debut. I was so nervous if I could still go back to Korea. But what I can do is work hard on the schedule that comes in. So I think I was very lonely and had a hard time. "I missed the member."

Shuhua said:

"At that time, I worked really hard to improve my singing and dancing and exercised a lot. I practiced so that I could learn one by one and grow more like a trainee."

Miyeon then revealed:

Since the members weren't in Korea (at the time), Korean Neverlands felt our absence. I thought, 'What can I do to fill that void?' I did my best to appear as much as I could."

Lastly, Yuqi conveyed her feelings, saying:

"There was a feeling of great pressure. I told the company that I won't rest. I'll do it. I was busy thinking. I miss the members the most. I've never done personal activities for that long."
