SHINee Taemin Breaks Gender Stereotypes Anew By Wearing Crop Top, Skirt

On July 27, the Atlético de Madrid and K-League XI held a friendly match as part of Coupang Play's Series at Seoul World Cup Stadium.

This is a part of the initially-announced plan of Atlético and Manchester City FC that they would travel to South Korea and join friendly pre-season matches with domestic teams.

Aside from soccer fans, the event also has high expectations from K-pop enthusiasts, as some of the biggest stars including SHINee Taemin, trot singer Young Tak, MONSTA X unit SHOWNU X HYUNGWON, and Stray Kids Changbin participated in the event.

In particular, Taemin was originally slated to have his stage for the halftime of the match, and there were expectations that he would showcase a powerful and energetic performance to match the "masculine" energy inside the stadium.

But fans and spectators were stunned when Taemin made a grand entrance as the closing act instead, along with his all-girl dance crew!

His presence alone sent the crowd in frenzy, but fans' jaws almost dropped after seeing Taemin in a crop top and a black skirt — in a FOOTBALL match to boot!

Wearing a suit-style 'fit, the singer partnered it with white cropped long sleeves and a black skirt with inner trousers.

Rather than choosing strong songs to appeal to soccer enthusiasts, Taemin also opted for the songs that made him popular for breaking gender stereotypes, his hits, "MOVE" and "ADVICE."

With his excellent performance, not only K-pop fans were enthralled but even the biggest soccer fan and K-League Ambassador approved his performance which is none other than his co-SHINee member, Choi Minho!

Following the performance, Taemin drew the attention of K-pop fans who admired his commitment to his legacy of being one of the male idols to pioneer and break gender stereotypes and norms through the art of music and fashion.

In the past, the K-pop scene considered crop tops and skirts as items that female idols can only wear.

Later on, BIGBANG G-Dragon, SHINee Taemin, Super Junior Heechul, 2AM Jo Kwon, EXO Kai and NU'EST Ren were some of the male idols who started incorporating crop tops, skirts, and even high heels and makeup in their releases, and even in their daily lives.

Fans also celebrated Taemin performing "MOVE," which is considered a revolutionary song for genderless concepts that pushes boundaries in K-pop.
