IVE's Courtesy Issue With Stray Kids Bang Chan Resurfaces as Wonyoung Gets Dragged by STAYs

Wonyoung has once again trended in social media.

On August 23, an online forum was made by netizens. The original author titled the post, "Jang Wonyoung who's wrongly dragged by international Stray Kids fans."

In the discussion, the author uploaded numerous screenshots from what appears to be on a YouTube comment section. According to the author, the pictures included numerous negative comments from international STAYs (Stray Kids' fandom).

It then wrote a numbered explanation for its context and how this backlash began. This issue started back on May 16, when leader Bang Chan was thought to be 'sniping' on his discussion regarding basic manners and etiquette.

During the live, the idol didn't mention any names, but imparted that there are some junior idols that failed to greet him. This led to fans' tinkering that ended up pointing IVE as the rumored rookie group Bang Chan had implied on his livestream.

This caused a heated rift between the two fandoms, and eventually, led Bang Chan to apologize for his honest thoughts on etiquette. However, fingers are now pointed at Wonyoung, who has now caught the spotlight.

Read the author's recollection below:

"1. One of the Stray Kids members wrote a post saying that there were juniors who didn't greet him, but he didn't drop names.

2. Then fans of Stray Kids claimed that the junior in question was Jang Wonyoung and jabbed her with Tweets that spread like wildfire.

3. Jang Wonyoung's Korean fans didn't fight back against STAYs, but they attacked Bang Chan instead, to which he ended up apologizing for.

4. Due to this reason, the STAYs who haven't forgotten and are still resentful about the incident have been terrorizing IVE's official SNS, including YouTube, for months."

Netizens followed up their divided thoughts on the posted screenshots. Some opposed the defense for Wonyoung, saying that her fans were the ones who started the conflict by making Bang Chan apologize for his actions.

  • "Then they shouldn't have made him apologize for it."
  • "They were the ones who started this, so why go to other people's contents to curse them?"

However, others defended how unfair it was for Wonyoung to get dragged in a conflict based on speculative inferences, as well as called out the ones who were still feeding the fire.

  • "They are still doing this?"
  • "Seriously, that female idol didn't even do anything, but her hair got grabbed all of a sudden."
  • "I knew foreign fans are weird but seeing them do this until now just reminds me how hopeless they are."
  • "But that guy was the one who caused a misunderstanding with other idols, and even made his fans curse at other idols too, so it's normal for him to apologize."
  • "STAYs were the first ones who took a jab at Wonyoung, right?"
