Shinhwa Shin Hye Sung Blurred Out in KBS's 'Mr House Husband 2' — What's the Reason?

Amid the 25th debut anniversary this year, Shinhwa Shin Hye Sung suffered from humiliation after KBS blurred out his face in a clip that featured his group.

On August 26, his co-member Hyun Jin Young appeared in KBS2's "Mr. House Husband" season 2 and visited STAYC's practice room along with Sieun's father, Park Nam Jung.

On this day, Hyun Jin Young boasted the juniors who had gotten dance lessons from him in the past, such as BoA, TVXQ, and Shinhwa. As he mentioned these top artists, photos of them flashed on the screen.

Just then, It became noticeable that one of the members of Shinhwa had been blurred out — who turned out to be none other than Hye Sung!

Shin Hye Sung debuted in 1998 as the main vocalist of the group Shinhwa. They were the third group created by SM Entertainment and the second boy group after H.O.T.

Shinhwa is loved as the longest-active idol group in South Korea and has unrelenting popularity thanks to their hits, "Eusha! Eusha!," "Resolver," and "Brand New."

Why Did KBS Blur Out Shinhwa Shin Hye Sung's Face?

In the past, there were cases where idols were edited out after leaving their groups as it might cause copyright issues.

However, Shin is still a member of Shinhwa, so what went wrong?

In particular, KBS stipulates that acts that have caused social controversy due to illegal or immoral acts are subject to deliberation on regulations on broadcasting appearances.

Artists subject to appearance regulation review specifically include those who were embroiled in evading military service, use of habitual drugs, smoking marijuana, assault, and sex scandals, gambling with fraudulent theft, and disorderly customs and social order.

As for Shin Hye Sung, he was banned from KBS after being involved in a DUI incident in October 2022.

After a meeting with acquaintances at a restaurant in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on this day, he initially called a chauffeur to take him home, but after his passenger got off, he drove about 13 kilometers drunk and fell asleep at a stop on the road near Tancheon Bridge 2.

He was caught and was later arrested by the police for refusing to take the breathalyzer test. However, in the process, Shin Hye Sung's vehicle was found to have been reportedly stolen, which shocked people.

Shin Hye-sung admitted to drunk driving and officially apologized, but Shin Hye Sung was also caught drunk driving in 2007, so public criticism was high.

During the trial, Shin Hye Sung appealed for leniency, saying:

"I have been working as a singer for 25 years and have suffered from panic disorder, depression, and interpersonal avoidance. I have to show an exemplary appearance, but I'm sorry to disappoint and hurt many people. I will make sure this doesn't happen again."

The first trial court sentenced Shin Hye Sung to six months in prison and one year of probation, but the prosecution appealed and the trial is ongoing.
