From K-pop Domination to Disbandment: NU'EST's Journey in the K-pop Industry

NU'EST debuted on March 15, 2012, with their debut single album "Face" and its title track of the same. The boy group was known to be under Pledis Entertainment, home to fromis_9, SEVENTEEN, and After School.

Notably, NU'EST is an acronym for "New Establish Style Tempo," and was comprised of five members: Aron, JR, Baekho, Minhyun, and Ren.

With the idols' music and undeniable teamwork, the group made waves as one of K-pop's headlining acts during its second and third gens. NU'EST is also known for hits such as "Hello," "Overcome," "I'm in Trouble," "Bet Bet," "Good Bye Bye," "Inside Out," and many more.

In 2017, JR, Baekho, Minhyun, and Ren participated in Mnet's survival program "Produce 101 Season 2." Member Aron wasn't able to join the competition since the idol had to focus on recovering his leg condition.

Eventually, Minhyun was the only NU'EST member to grab a spot on the project boy group's official lineup, which would later debut as Wanna One. During Minhyun's promotions with Wanna One, the remaining members formed the sub-unit NU'EST W in July 2017.

On January 2, 2021, it was reported that Aron would be undergoing a temporary hiatus due to health concerns. According to Pledis Entertainment, Aron experienced symptoms of anxiety and has taken his time to prioritize recovery.

"Aron stated he was undergoing anxiety symptoms, and eventually, it was decided that he needed to rest after consulting health experts."

"After an in-depth discussion with Aron and the rest of the members, it was concluded that Aron will be recovering, therefore, NU'EST will continue their activities as a four-membered group in the meantime."

On February 28, 2022, Pledis shared that JR, Aron, and Ren will not be renewing their contracts, while Baekho and Minhyun will stay under the agency. Their exclusive contracts were set to end on March 14.

On the same day, all five members uploaded heartfelt letters that addressed the situation.
