THIS Popular Disbanded K-pop Group Reminisced by Stans: 'They were doing better than EXO'

A popular, disbanded third-gen K-pop boy group is currently being recalled and discussed by stans in an online community.

Here's what people are saying.

B.A.P Trends in K-pop Community, Stans Recall Group's Music, Impact, Achievements, More

The group is none other than B.A.P, which stands for "Best Absolute Perfect."

On October 20, a netizen made a post titled, "The idols who were super popular when they debuted," together with B.A.P's debut track "WARRIOR," which was released on January 26, 2012. The MV was followed by the author's caption and numerous comments from fans.

OP stated:

"This is B.A.P's debut with 'WARRIOR.' Compared to the other rookies debuting at that time (2012), B.A.P was doing so well. It was all thanks to Zelo's rapid fire rap at the 1:38 mark, together with Daehyun's visuals."

BABYs (B.A.P's fandom) took over the comments section to express both their nostalgia with the group's impact and their disappointment with B.A.P's agency TS Entertainment.

In February 2012, B.A.P's "Warrior" sold around 10,000 copies two days after release, followed by its entry on Billboard's World Albums chart, as well as its peak on domestic charts such as Circle (formerly Gaon).

With their good start, paired with the positive feedback of fans and community, B.A.P's success led them to become one of the biggest boy groups at that time, to the point of rivaling SM Entertainment's EXO.

Some reminisced about the incident in MAMA 2012, where fandoms of B.A.P and EXO both rooted for their favorite artists to win the rookie award, only to end up seeing indie band trio Busker Busker to receive the trophy. They commented:

  •  "I still listen to their early songs back in the day."
  •  "So they debuted with 'WARRIOR'? They really should've ridden their momentum and kept pushing. But that company."
  •  "The people saying they were doing better than EXO are simply delusional."
  •  "I was a B.A.P fan and I knew how successful they were. I still remember in vivid detail that the rookie award would be between them and EXO, but Busker Busker received it instead."

A separate thread was also made online, with netizens agreeing with Korean fans that B.A.P definitely had their time when they were more successful than EXO.

However, they also expressed their sadness over TS Entertainment's issues and the group's lawsuit due to unfair contract conditions, treatment, and profit distribution.

  •  "They actually did do better than EXO, in their debut, but after the TS problem started to rise and 'Growl' was there, so they got buried so bad."
  •  "Everyone in my middle school was all about B.A.P versus EXO lmao."
  •  "It's true though. They kind of had their moment when they were doing better than EXO."
  •  "TS Entertainment deserves to burn for real."
  •  "The lawsuit started after 'Growl.' When EXO started peaking, B.A.P was already touring. EXO Chinese members started leaving and the B.A.P lawsuit happened. It was a mess."

Others pondered if B.A.P would've been treated differently had they debuted and managed in one of the "Big 3" agencies.

  •  "I used to wonder what would've happened if they debuted in the Big 3 instead of a company that horribly treated them. That lawsuit lost all of their momentum."
  •  "I remember EXO being the big thing at the time, but I was drawn towards B.A.P's music and dance. They did amazing for what they were up against."
