Seo Soojin, who withdrew from (G)I-DLE due to allegations of school violence, announced her solo comeback after two years and eight months. However, K-pop fans aren't as welcoming to her as before.

Ex-(G)I-DLE Soojin Announces Solo Debut With '아가씨'

After taking a break due to the school violence controversy, Seo Soojin heralds return to the music scene with her solo debut album in November!

On October 27, its new nest BRD Entertainment announced that the former (G)I-DLE-turned-soloist will release her debut album, "아가씨 (literal translation: Young Lady/The Handmaiden)" on November 8.

Ahead of the album release, teaser videos and photos of the idol were unveiled, showing off her mature visuals. With just her back flaunted in the clip alone, viewers felt Soojin's intense charisma, and she gained even more attention as she showed her colorful, unique styling and portrait-like visuals.

More information about the album is yet to be revealed, but it was hinted that the album will uncover Soojin's "unique music color with music that contains a more mature scent, high-quality performance, and octochromatic charm."

Before her solo debut, Soojin also opened her official YouTube channel and teased fans with a video titled, "BLACK FOREST."

As of writing, her channel surpassed 160k subscribers and her video for "BLACK FOREST" reached 883k views. The concept trailer for "아가씨" has approximately 150k views.

Looking at these numbers, Seo Soojin still has a thriving fandom regardless of her recent controversy. Several internet users posted supportive messages for her.

  • "My beloved Soojin is back!"
  • "The OG mother will finally return!"
  • "Mother will be mothering again."
  • "Finally, the Queen is set to dominate the K-pop scene again."
  • "Her skills never missed."
  • "Our talented and beautiful Soojin."

Unfortunately, many expressed their disappointment that she will return. They noted that she almost ruined (G)I-DLE's career after she was accused of being a school bully.

  • "Her skills aren't very good."
  • "She used to be my favorite idol, but being her fan was one of the shameful moments I regret."
  • "I still feel bad for her victim."
  • "She's so shameless. She didn't even bother to apologize and reflect on herself."
  • "I was surprised that she was this bad (in performing). Jeon Soyeon is a genius for highlighting each member's strengths."
  • "She's out here building her career again, but just a few days, a bullying victim just took their life because of a bully like her."

Seo Soojin Bullying Issue

In 2021, Seo Soojin was embroiled in allegations of school violence. Actress Seo Shin Ae was included among the victims at the time, which is why it became more controversial.

As the controversy lingered, Seo Soojin repeatedly denied the accusations, but after six months the female idol withdrew from (G)I-DLE and terminated her contract with the agency Cube Entertainment.

During the lawsuit battle, the police stated that it was hard to determine that the accuser was spreading false information, however, it doesn't mean that Soojin was also "guilty."

Ultimately, the case ended unpleasantly without a clear answer if Soojin's bullying case indeed took place, but she was cleared from claims as the accuser failed to show evidence.

In July 2023 then, Seo Soojin, who had been self-reflecting for a while, opened a personal social media and began communicating with fans. Currently, she has 2.86 million followers.

Seo Soojin is known to have recently signed a contract with BRD Communications, a new agency. She is also preparing to debut as a solo artist this fall.
