Was BTS Really 'Unsuccessful' During Their Rookie Days? Bang Si Hyuk Clarifies Group's Early Reputation

Bang Si Hyuk has clarified the "unsuccessful" rookie days of BTS in the program "You Quiz on the Block."

Here's what he said.

HYBE Founder Bang Si Hyuk Sheds Light on BTS's 'Unsuccessful' Rookie Days

On November 2, HYBE founder Bang Si Hyuk appeared on the program "You Quiz on the Block," along with JYPE founder J.Y. Park, comedians Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho.

With two of the most influential CEOs in the Big 4, the episode treated viewers to the history of their younger days, past business ventures, and artistry. During the episode, the topic moved on to Bang Si Hyuk's take on BTS's success in their earlier years.

It's not a stretch to say that BTS is the biggest group in the K-pop industry. While many talented acts are rising nowadays, many still conclude that the bar that BTS left behind will always remain undisputed.

BTS didn't just rise up to become one of the most successful groups in K-pop but also served as an inspiration for many fans and aspiring idols out there.

This inspiring story of theirs has been told often, with BTS coming from a small company, which was formerly Big Hit Entertainment at that time. Their success wasn't an easy one to achieve, as BTS had also encountered numerous obstacles along the way.

Furthermore, this misconception also rooted from Big Hit Entertainment's financial difficulties back then.

However, Bang Si Hyuk mentioned that while many people think that BTS wasn't successful due to the circumstances, he claimed that it was indeed the opposite.

The HYBE founder proudly stated that BTS was successful from the start since they also received rookie awards in their early days.

Bang Si Hyuk: "I thought I should do it, so I did, and BTS was good at that time. People keep thinking that BTS didn't do well in the beginning, but that's not true. They did very well from the beginning."

Yoo Jae Suk: "Ah, as far as we know, it was actually like that from the start."

Bang Si Hyuk: "It sounds good to say that they didn't do well from the beginning, but they got successful when they returned from the US, but that's not it at all. They received rookie awards in their first year (together) and were very successful that time."
