Dua Lipa Spills On Her Friendship With BLACKPINK

On January 3, Warner Music Korea uploaded a new video with Dua Lipa to promote her latest single, "Houdini." In the video, the British-Albanian singer took time to answer questions sent in by Korean fans.

One of the questions she was asked reads, "You had Korean guests on your podcasts and worked with artists. How did you make such connections with Korea?"

Dua Lipa reveals it all started because she was a huge fan of BLACKPINK. During Dua Lipa's early part of her career, she wrote the song "Kiss and Make Up" and had high hopes of collaborating with the K-pop girl group. On a whim, she sent it and asked the group if they wanted to work with her.

This marked the start of BLACKPINK's friendship with Dua Lipa. The singer recounts how fun it was to hear the members' translate her lyrics to Korean and make the song their own.

Following that initial connection, BLACKPINK and Dua Lipa formed a life-long friendship. In fact, Jennie even appeared on Dua Lipa's podcast, "Dua Lipa: At Your Service," in July 2023.

Besides Jennie, Dua Lipa also had South Korean writer Min Jin Lee on her show. Min Jin Lee is the writer of "Pachinko," which was the basis of the 2022 K-drama of the same name.

Dua Lipa has worked with other K-pop acts in the past. In 2020, Dua Lipa released a version of "Physical" with MAMAMOO member Hwasa. She has also been spotted hanging out with CL.

'Kiss and Make Up': The Iconic BLACKPINK and Dua Lipa Collaboration

In 2018, Dua Lipa and BLACKPINK released the collaboration "Kiss and Make Up." The song talks about two lovers who solve issues with physical affection rather than their words.

The song was a huge commercial success. It charted in the top 40 in nineteen countries, hitting number one in Malaysia and Singapore. In South Korea, it peaked at number 75 on the Gaon Digital Chart, while it charted at number 36 in the UK Singles Chart.

"Kiss and Make Up" was included in BLACKPINK's set list for their "In Your Area World Tour." Dua Lipa even joined them on stage for their Newark stop.
