The music video features the quintet dancing to the song's choreography, accompanied by its quirky beat, poppy instrumental, and the group's chanting verses. However, the song quickly caught the attention of Korean netizens, leading to a forum.

In an online community titled "(G)I-DLE's lyrics for pre-release song 'Wife," the author uploaded the entire lyrics of the song, followed by negative remarks from netizens. According to the post, K-netz criticized the song's "nonsensical" lyrics.

Some called out the lyrics for having too many English words. Netizens also shared how (G)I-DLE's discography began to plummet ever since their "Nxde" era. Read their comments below:

  •  "I'm a married person and the lyrics f*cking p**s me off. I wonder what they think of wives? If the title was '(G)I-DLE,' their fans would be enraged."
  •  "I've always felt this way, but they are really not good at writing lyrics."
  •  "Results aside, the level of these lyrics are just, d**n. That's why I don't listen to idol songs anymore. The amount of ridiculous English is just severe."
  •  "They are calling a song with those lyrics 'wife'? Women's rights are crumbling."
  •  "I am starting to hate them."
  •  "Ever since Nxde, they're pretending to be someone they're not, be p**verts, and be all weird. The overs**ualization is just too excessive."
  •  "I got reminded of J.Lo's song though? Of course, the nuance of the song is completely the opposite."

International K-pop fans stated that the song meant well, suspecting how it was supposed to be a satirical take that addresses misogyny and delving into the value of being a wife. However, netters claimed that the message became muddled due to the lyrics

  •  "It's a list of misogynistic traits Korean men want."
  •  "I feel like the song is supposed to be satirizing how ridiculous all these are. The lyrics are just jumbled so the message comes out as unclear."
  •  "Soyeon needs to stop writing in English, she sucks and is nonsensical."
  •  "It could've been satire, but it's just nonsense. I can't even get offended because I have to squint too hard to understand it."
  •  "I get the satirical tone she was going for, but good lord, the way it's written is horrendous."
