The case went viral in 2021 after Chinese influencer and student Du Meizhu accused Kris Wu of sexually assaulting her. Following an investigation, the police found sufficient evidence to arrest Kris Wu on July 31, 2021.
What Happened in Kris Wu's First Court Case?
In the first trial, which was held in November 2022, Kris Wu was sentenced to 13 years in prison. After he serves his sentence, he will be deported from China and will not be allowed back in the country for ten years.
Following this sentencing, Kris Wu's side filed an appeal, stating the ruling was too harsh and he did not deserve it.

During investigations, it was found that Kris Wu was not only guilty of rape but also of fraud. Tax authorities discovered that from 2019 to 2020, Kris Wu evaded paying roughly $13 million USD in taxes by using fake businesses and business declarations to conceal personal income.
Following the reveal, Kris Wu was forced to pay a fine amounting to approximately $83.3 million USD.
