Wendy's move comes after her exclusive contract with SM Entertainment, which had managed her since her debut in 2014, expired in early April. SM Entertainment confirmed that while Wendy and fellow member Yeri have left the company for their solo careers, both will continue to participate in Red Velvet's group activities. Yeri is currently reported to be in discussions with Blitzway Studios for her solo pursuits.
Wendy has built a reputation as one of K-pop's most versatile and powerful vocalists. She made her solo debut with the mini-album "Like Water" in 2021 and followed up with "Wish You Hell" in March 2024. Beyond her music releases, she has contributed to several drama soundtracks and is active in broadcasting, serving as a judge on Mnet's "Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival" and as the DJ for SBS PowerFM's "Wendy's Youngstreet."
ASND, though a relatively new agency, is quickly gaining attention in the industry. It recently signed five members of the girl group fromis_9, including Song Hayoung, Park Jiwon, Lee Nagyung, Lee Chaeyoung, and Baek Jiheon.
