Netflix has officially submitted "Golden," the breakout anthem from its hit animated film "KPop Demon Hunters," for awards consideration, marking a significant milestone for the fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X.

The streaming giant's move comes as the song continues its impressive climb on global music charts, having already achieved remarkable success since the film's June 20 release.

"Golden" will be released as an official single through Republic Records on July 4, accompanied by a three-track bundle featuring the original version, an instrumental, and an a cappella rendition. The song, performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami as the fictional group HUNTR/X, has become a streaming phenomenon, currently tied for the highest-charting song by a female K-pop group on U.S. Spotify at No. 3.

The submission for awards consideration comes on the heels of extraordinary commercial success. The "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, making it the highest soundtrack debut of 2025. Since its release, the soundtrack has dominated streaming platforms, with HUNTR/X becoming the top female group on Spotify by daily streams.

"Golden" debuted at No. 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has experienced a remarkable 2000% increase in streams on Apple Music since launch. The song serves as a pivotal moment in the film, performed during a key scene where HUNTR/X prepares to seal the mystical Golden Honmoon and shut the demon world out permanently. The track also marks the emotional climax when lead singer Rumi reveals her own half-demon identity.

The song was composed by EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick, with production handled by 24, Ido, Teddy Park, and Ian Eisendrath. Executive music producer Ian Eisendrath explained the creative approach: "Our goal from day one was to have the songs double-function as both story drivers and absolute bangers. 'Golden' does both."

The song's success sparked industry speculation about potential Academy Award nominations, particularly in the Best Original Song category. The film's soundtrack has demonstrated unprecedented crossover appeal, with tracks competing alongside real-life K-pop artists on major music charts.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, "KPop Demon Hunters" follows the story of three K-pop superstars who secretly serve as demon hunters. The film was produced by Sony Pictures Animation and features an all-star voice cast including Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo.

The awards submission represents Netflix's confidence in the film's cultural impact and commercial viability. With the soundtrack continuing to gain momentum and the film maintaining its strong global viewership, "Golden" appears well-positioned for recognition in upcoming awards seasons.
