Miyeon of the K-pop group I-dle released her first self-written solo single, "Sky Walking," on August 28 at 6 p.m. KST through Cube Entertainment's digital platforms.
The track marks Miyeon's debut as both composer and lyricist on a solo release, a milestone she celebrated with fans worldwide.
"Sky Walking" is an alternative pop song that fuses energetic bass and drums with shimmering guitars and synths reminiscent of 1980s pop. The arrangement creates a dreamy yet uplifting atmosphere, allowing Miyeon's clear, refreshing vocals to shine over a driving beat. Lyrics convey a message of hope and freedom, inviting listeners to leave their worries behind and "come up to the sky walking."
Miyeon shared her excitement about the release, explaining, "I hope the song I composed becomes a pleasant gift. I've been waiting for this moment ever since I first performed the song at a concert." She added, "Since 'Sky Walking' was the very first song I composed myself and revealed to fans, I hope it will be a gift that brings joy. I love Neverland so much, and as much as you cheer for me, I'll repay you with even better music."
Ahead of the single's drop, Cube Entertainment released a special "Macau Version" clip showing Miyeon strolling through the streets of Macau and singing atop high-rise rooftops. The visuals transition from day to night, matching the track's bright, free-spirited energy and highlighting Macau's skyline as a backdrop to Miyeon's performance.
"Sky Walking" first debuted live during I-dle's third world tour, the 2024 I-DLE WORLD TOUR [iDOL], at the Seoul concert last August. Fans responded enthusiastically when she performed the unreleased track, setting the stage for its official digital release. The song later made its broadcast debut at KCON Germany 2024 in October and was accompanied by a special clip released in December 2024.
Born Cho Mi-yeon in 1997, Miyeon trained in violin, guitar, and piano from a young age before debuting with I-DLE in 2018. She gained further recognition as the voice of Ahri in the virtual group K/DA, whose hit single "Pop/Stars" topped Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. As a solo artist, Miyeon previously released the EP [MY] in 2022, earning her a first music show win.
With "Sky Walking," Miyeon takes a significant step into songwriting, showcasing her growth as an artist and promising fans more of her personal musical vision in future releases.
