Former f(x) vocalist Luna delivered a powerful performance as she opened the musical "Mali" on Dec. 20 at Seoul's Baekam Art Hall.

The 32-year-old artist took on the lead role of Mali, an 18-year-old character who once lived as a child star and now leads an ordinary life. Luna's portrayal showcased emotional depth as her character traveled back to the past, inhabiting the body of a doll named Levi. The musical tells a touching story about reconciliation and self-acceptance. Mali's journey involves confronting her glamorous past and discovering her true place in life.

Luna's vocal abilities stood out throughout the performance, reports said. The singer demonstrated her range, transitioning between powerful high notes and soft, lyrical tones. Her chemistry with the other cast members, particularly those playing Young Mali and the doll Levi, was also quite clear.

This production represents another milestone in Luna's expanding musical theatre career. Her previous stage credits include starring roles in "Mamma Mia!", "Hamlet," and "TokTok."

Following the successful opening, Luna expressed gratitude to audiences and shared her hopes for the production's impact.

"I hope that all the Malis in the world can find comfort and courage through this story, and be able to exist as themselves in a challenging world," she said.

The musical "Mali" will continue its run at Baekam Art Hall through Feb. 15, 2026.

Luna debuted in September 2009 as the main vocalist and lead dancer of f(x), a five-member group that also included Victoria, Amber, Krystal, and Sulli. Over the course of a decade, the group became known for its critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums, including 2013's Pink Tape and 2015's 4 Walls, while pioneering electronic dance music and synth-pop in K-pop.

However, the group gradually faded from the spotlight after 2016 as members pursued individual careers. In 2015, Sulli departed to focus on acting.

Beginning in September 2019, the remaining members did not renew their contracts with SM Entertainment, effectively ending the group's activities. Luna left SM Entertainment and later established her own label, Grida Entertainment.
