South Korean actress and former After School member Nana has been counter-sued for attempted murder by the man she subdued during a November 2025 home invasion, her agency Sublime confirmed on January 2, 2026.

The suspect, a man in his 30s identified only as A, filed the countersuit from detention, accusing Nana of attempted murder and aggravated assault despite police already ruling her actions as legitimate self-defense. The intruder was arrested on November 15, 2025, after breaking into Nana's residence in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, using a ladder to enter through the veranda while carrying a knife.

According to police reports, the suspect threatened Nana's mother with a weapon and demanded money, choking her until she briefly lost consciousness. Nana, whose real name is Im Jin-ah, woke to her mother's screams and together they subdued the intruder, who sustained a 7-centimeter laceration to his jaw during the struggle. Both women were injured in the confrontation, with Nana's mother requiring hospitalization for strangulation injuries, according to MSN.

The Guri Police Station concluded in November that Nana's response fell within the bounds of legitimate self-defense. "The level of force used did not amount to excessive or serious injury to the suspect," an official stated, adding that no criminal charges would be filed against Nana or her mother.

The suspect initially confessed to the crime but later retracted his statement during police questioning, claiming he was unarmed and did not injure the victims. In letters sent from prison to JTBC's "Crime Chief" program, the man alleged that Nana's team offered him 40 million Korean won (approximately $27,700 USD) to testify that he entered with a weapon, and claimed that Nana attempted to stab him. He stated his motive was obtaining money for his mother's medical expenses.

Sublime strongly denied these allegations. "Claims about medical expenses, financial proposals, or agreements regarding weapons are entirely false, the Korea Times reported. Instead, the perpetrator demanded we not report him to the police," the agency stated. The label condemned the suspect for exploiting Nana's celebrity status and causing "secondary harm" without showing remorse.

The agency announced it will pursue all available civil and criminal legal action against the suspect. Nana initially considered leniency due to the suspect's young age, but changed course after learning of the countersuit.

On social media, Nana addressed supporters directly. "I've known about the counter-suit for some time. Fortunately, after spending time alone, I've regained stability and feel stronger," she wrote, assuring fans she would "resolve this properly" and remain unwavering.

Police confirmed they will review the case according to protocol since a formal complaint was filed, though self-defense has already been established, as per Koreaboo.
