Rookie Group 2EYES Debut Single Should Have Been Named 'Don't Notice Me' [Opinion]

The K-Pop market is being flooded with new artists all the time - some have found instant success, some have had a hit single or two, while others have just flat out flopped.

There is tough competition out there, not just among the rookie group themselves, but new artists must also show their worth against the ever-popular veteran idols as well.

When the new girl group 2EYES debuted last week with their single "Don't Mess With Me," the song seemed to just blend into the background noise of the industry. What does this mean for the future of the group?

Being marketed as a hip-hop inspired girl group, 2EYES is trying to present a different image from the other females in the scene already. But their first single leaves a lot to be desired.

The song itself could easily have been sung by SISTAR, T-ARA, or 4Minute, and it is doubtful anyone would have noticed. There is nothing interesting or original about the single and the video is equally yawn-worthy - severely lacking any sort of 'wow-factor.'

Pretty girls, matching outfits, underwhelming choreography - haven't we seen all this before?

If SidusHQ really wanted to market a hip-hop girl group, they certainly could have done better than this collection of sub-par CL wannabes. And that is exactly what is going to hold 2EYES back.

It seems that nowadays, for a group to really take off, they must present something never before seen - a fresh concept, style, and sound. The concept can't be forced (think: Global Icon with their tomboy concept), and the music has to be something that makes fans want to hit the replay button, not a repeat of what we've already heard.

2EYES's agency had the right idea, but the execution was poor.

They were right that there is something missing from the K-Pop scene at the moment: a true female hip-hop group. 2NE1's CL is the closest, particularly with her debut solo single "The Baddest Female." But she has proven herself to be a talented and multifaceted performer for several years already (not to mention having genius composer-producers Teddy and G-Dragon behind her).

The rookies, however, don't measure up - can't measure up.

If SidusHQ really hopes to make it big with 2EYES in the future, they are going to have to impress their audiences with something a little (or a lot) more than this standard girl group fare. Because as it stands right now, 2EYES do not have to worry about people 'messing' with them, but rather should be more concerned about people actually paying attention to them.
