Review: Move Over Daft Punk, Dynamic Duo Dials In Some Vocoder-Infused Funk Of Their Own In 'BAAAM' Featuring Muzie Of UV [VIDEO]

Although July just got here, for anyone living in the US, the song of the summer has already arrived, "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk.

The robotic duo from France melded the incredible funk guitar of legendary producer and musician Nile Rodgers and an irresistible Pharrell Williams vocal hook, with their brand of vocoder-infused dance music.

The result is lightning in a bottle.

But there is another duo, a Dynamic Duo in fact, that are taking to vocoder to some very danceable places.

"BAAAM" by South Korean rap group Dynamic Duo featuring (if the video imagery is accurate) some very nice Vocoder playing by Muzie of, yet another dance duo, UV.

The result is a track that goes to some very rewarding places.

Like Daft Punk, Dynamic Duo dials in the sound of the disco-happy 1970s as well as anyone has since Dr. Dre and 2Pac raised the roof with their 1996 rap classic "California Love."

An while on the subject of West Coast rappers, there are also tones of a song by Dr. Dre's former N.W.A. bandmate Ice Cube.

There is something about the guitar and bass interplay on "BAAAM" that bears a resemblance in vibe to Ice Cube's 1993 epic depiction of life on the tough streets of Compton, Calif., "It Was A Good Day."

Yet the beat is also a bit more upbeat. Something Raphael Saadiq could definitely nod his head to.

"BAAAM" shares a common sensibility particularly with Saadiq's early solo work like 2002's "Instant Vintage" and the work he did with his first band, Tony! Toni! Toné!

But let's not get carried away with the comparisons. Sure Dynamic Duo dial in the sound of classic 1990s rap and R&B. But their flow is something modern.

The style of both members of the Dynamic Duo, Choiza and Gaeko, is original and new. It's aggressive but without seeming overwhelmingly confident.

And instead of consisting of the boasting that is so synonymous with American hip hop "BAAAM" features confessional lyrics about the trials and tribulations of being romantically involved with someone that you can't control your feelings for.

All on top of some very funky vocoder-infused sounds.

Looks like 2013 is shaping up to be the Summer of the Vocoder.
