Who's The Most 'American' Idol Group In K-Pop?

ChoColat is a South Korean K-Pop girl group with a twist.

Created in 2011 by Paramount Music, the four members are about as diverse as you can get. The name of the group is meant to represent this unique mix, as the members resemble the different colors and varieties of chocolate.

Of the four members, one is wholly Korean (Min Soa) and the other three ladies are mixed-race (Melanie, Tia, and Juliane).

The leader and eldest member, Min Soa was born and raised in Korea and then later moved to Australia to study.

Melanie, the youngest member, was also born in South Korea, but later moved to Hawaii. Her mother is Korean and her father was a US soldier stationed in Korea when they met and married.

Melanie and Tia were school friends and Tia's father was also serving in the US Armed Forces when he met her mother. Born in California, she is half-Korean, and of Puerto Rican and German descent on her father's side.

Like the other Korean-American members of ChoColat, Juliane's father was also a soldier when her parents got together. She was born in South Korea, but was raised in Texas for a while before returning to the country when she was still quite young.

The group has had their fair share of struggles since their debut. Being so different and diverse is challenging enough as it is in a homogenous country like Korea, but they also have some pretty heated competition from their Korean girl group peers.

ChoColat has released one EP and three single albums since their debut in 2011 and made a comeback last month.

On June 11, ChoColat released their single "Black Tinkerbell" which peaked at number 81 on the GaOn weekly singles chart.
