Christian Bale’s new movie for 2013, “Out of the Furnace,” is the newest of the revenge dramas that have been making their way to the big screen. Today, Relativity Media shared the official trailer and the poster for the upcoming gripping, gritty drama, “Out of the Furnace.” Yesterday, Spike Lee released the trailer for his upcoming remake of the grisly South Korean revenge drama “Oldboy.”

Christian Bale’s new movie is called “Out of the Furnace. It was directed and co-written by the critically-acclaimed Scott Cooper, who last directed. Christian Bale’s new movie also stars an Academy Award winning and nominated cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Zoë Saldana and Sam Shepard.

Christian Bale plays Russell Blaze in Out of the Furnace, a man who works a dead-end blue collar job at a Pennsylvania steel mill during the day and takes care of his terminally ill father at night. His brother Rodney, played by Casey Affleck, comes home after serving in the military in Iraq war. He gets involved with a ruthless crime ring that is led by Woody Harrelson, and disappears. The police can’t do anything, so Russell goes after the local crime boss himself, in spite of protests by his girlfriend, played by Zoe Saldana.

The movie was produced by Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Kavanaugh, Ridley Scott, Michael Costigan and executive produced by Tucker Tooley, Ron Burkle, Jason Colbeck, Robbie Brenner, Brooklyn Weaver, Riza Aziz, Joey McFarland, Christian Mercuri, Joe Gatta, Jeff Waxman. The script was penned by Scott Cooper and Brad Ingelsby. This is Cooper’s first movie since 2009's Crazy Heart.

The film will show economic troubles of Rust Belt during the American depressing. Christian Bale said Russell’s character is a symbol of life during hard financial times. “In the midst of this crumbling town of Braddock, Pennsylvania, which people were deserting, [Russell] was somebody who was staying, and also staying with principles and loyalty that defined his life, regardless of the consequences. And therefore a very memorable individual. Through his faith and the support of his family and community and through his resolve, he emerges a stronger man,” he says. “Much like America has after coming through these last five or six difficult years.” The director is especially proud of bringing a spotlight to a part of the country that isn’t represented onscreen very often. “Many people refer to it pejoratively as ‘flyover states.’ But I have a real fondness for those people who live in the heartland of America, and I like to see their stories onscreen.”

Out of the Furnace is set to open Nov. 27.
