Review: Shades Of Late MJ And Passionate Rhymes Help Untouchable Dial In The Vibe With 'Call Me' Featuring Andrew Choi [VIDEO]

If you had a giant radio dial that allowed you to scan through all of the K-pop hits of the current moment, there are probably quite a few you would skip right past.

And while you might give more of them a listen if you were in the right moment, like on your way out for a wild Saturday night, a lot of the material is definitely for a certain time and place.

"Call Me," by the hip hop duo Untouchable featuring Andrew Choi, has a vibe that is appealing whatever portion of the week you happen to be in.

Like the iconic scene in the film "Jerry Maguire" where Tom Cruise's character scans through the radio dial before coming to rest on the Tom Petty song "Free Fallin'," once "Call Me" jumps across your stereo speakers, the track dials in a cool, intoxicating feeling (with a backbeat) that you just don't want to stop.

The video is an extension of this hip hop cool that the band exudes.

Shot in a post-modern, behind-the-fourth-wall style that includes the band standing near lighting rigs in what appears to be an immaculately cool photo studio, it is conceptually speaking, a video about a band making a video.

Yet the director does manage to weave a love story in there, between the cleverly styled shots.

With its minimalized enticing cinematography, the "Call Me" clip even evokes the beloved HBO series "Entourage," giving the viewer a cool glimpse of how the better half lives.

Musically, all the pieces are there.

Freshly back from their two-year mandatory enlistment in the South Korean army, band members Sleepy and The Action deliver the fire in their rhyme flows that they are known for.

And right in the middle of it all guest star Andrew Choi, a former contestant on the reality singing competition "K-Pop Star 2," adds a sterling hook, channeling Michael Jackson's swooning late-period ballad vocals, which as we all know, is no easy achievement.

The modern production sound with Choi's vocals bares a resemblance to the late Jackson hit "Butterfly."

And the musical backdrop keeps things funky.

The Fender Rhodes is played with lovely retro flare and the vocoder-flourishes, particularly at the end of the track, would probably even earn them two robo-thumbs up from Daft Punk.

All in all, "Call Me" marks a strong return for Untouchable.
