Review: Ailee Finds Her Sweet Spot On The Rihanna-Flavored 'No No No' From Her New Album 'A's Doll House' [AUDIO]

If Lee Hyori is the Beyonce of South Korea, than K-pop has just found its Rihanna.

Although more known for her soaring vocal acrobatics, Ailee dips down to the lower part of her range on her new single "No No No" with powerful results.

There is no denying the 24-year-old singer has the pipes.

The previous singles from her new album A's Doll House, clearly demonstrate that she has what it takes to hang with the Mariah Careys and Kelly Clarksons of the world when it comes to technical vocal ability.

Its a skill that has paid of for Ailee on the charts.

Her horn infused single "U&I" is currently number three on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 this week and her song "Rainy Day" is number 16.

Although "No No No" only debuted at number 28 on the Billboard K-pop chart this this week, it is a breakthrough for the artist.

But what the song has that the other two, high-charting singles from "A's Doll House" don't, is the ability to draw you in and makes you want to get on the dance floor.

It's the sign of any great dance song.

Ailee's upper vocal register may be impressive to listen to, but when she sings in her lower, more urban-infused voice, she can start a party with that microphone.

Although she may lean on Rihanna stylistically in "No No No," Ailee's voice doesn't sound like she has anything to prove and the result is a powerful vocal performance that compliments the R&B backbeat.

And the influences in "No No No" aren't completely American.

There is something about the melody in "No No No" and Ailee's delivery is rooted in the K-pop tradition of veteran artists like Shinhwa and Baek Ji Young.

As a singer she has practically limitless potential.

As a fan, or even a casual follower one can only hope that she realizes that the power of a song is not in the technicality of the singer, but rather in the combined effect of all the flavors.

It is a mistake many new artist's make. Their face is on the album cover; they feel their vocals must carry the day.

But the greatest singers in pop history like Aretha Franklin, or even just the mega-hitmakers of our day like Rihanna integrate their voice with the rest of the music on the track.

That is what Ailee does on "No No No," more than her other material that makes the song so powerful.
