A Quick Tutorial on Learning K-Pop Lyrics: 3 Easy Steps

Trying to memorize Korean lyrics or any language that is foreign to you can seem intimidating. And if you are new to K-Pop, and you need some pointers on how to jam to your bias's tunes, then here are just 3 easy steps on how to do so!

The first one is pretty important, and something that you already do: look up music video's or lyric videos of the song with english translations of the lyrics as well as romatizations. The reason for this is because memorizing something you have a vague understanding of is so much easier than committing something to heart that to you just sounds like jibberish. Let's say you want to learn the lyrics to Big Bang's "Bad Boy."

Check out the lyrics and see which phrases that are repeated can be easily followed in the translations. Some words can be obviously translated, even when you have little to no knowledge of the language. Along with this method, you get to understand what you're singing even if just a bit. And most importantly, you get the gist of the song.

Second, you have to put that song on repeat. For forever is necessary. This is how you get the melody down, the beat, the runs, the rhythm of the song. It becomes subconsciously ingrained in your memory instead of being forced and cramped there, which as you know, can leave you just as easily as it came to you. So gradually learnin the song by listening to it repeatedly is an easy, natural way to learn it. Think of it as like language immersion.

The last step, and the best step, is to sing along! You have to be able to sing along to the song without having to look at the lyrics anymore. And before you even know it, that song will be stuck in your head, memorized and ready!
