Teen Top Promotes through Word of Mouth

Boy group Teen Top didn't even officially debut in Japan, yet they successfully completed their Arena Tour in 4 cities.

For the last 1-2 years, there hasn't been a new rising Japanese Hallyu group, but Teen Top has been a trending group. Most groups have a difficult time surviving after a debut and official promotion. However, Teen Top was still able to fill the 10,000 seat arena easily, and built their fandom simply with local performances.

Teen Top's agency T.O.P. Media stated, "After their debut in Korea Teen Top has greeting their Japanese fan club year after year through their concerts in Japan. They started with only 1,000 fans this year, but they were able to successfully complete their Asia Tour, and even held an encore tour in Japan that maxed out the 10,000 seats in house."

Teen Top has risen to a large concert singer status just this past May. They performed at the Tokyo International Forum, Kobe in front of 15,000 people. In July their Pacifico Yokohama concert tickets sold out 10,000 seats in just 5 minutes.

Like many other groups, Teen Top has received a lot of love calls from Japan at the time of their debut in Korea, but they haven't yet decided on a debut partner. Instead of a debut promotion, Teen Top used word of mouth as their promotional strategy.

The agency said, "Teen Top met with their fans through lively performances at their concerts, and proved their worth as artists with their live skills. We wanted to appeal to the public with Teen Top's specific colors, and have become popular simply by word of mouth."

In October, Teen Top held a press conference for their Japan Arena Tour. About 70 different medias were present with about 100 people. Music label companies and other music representatives were also present. One broadcast rep stated, "They are usually very normal guys, but once they start their performance and begin singing, they are completely different. That gap is really what draws you in. Every time they perform, they bring a new performance to the stage, and that's what makes the public more curious as to how they will perform differently for their next concert."

One record label rep stated, "They have the ability to change the concept of K-pop idols' performances. Although it's only been 3 years since their debut, their carefully prepared stages are seen every time. That's why we look forward to seeing this group's official debut in Japan."

Teen Top's goal is to have their official Japan debut next year, and to hopefully perform at the Tokyo Dome in early 2015. There's interest as to whether this group that has been rising in popularity simply by word of mouth could be the new Hallyu sensation in Japan.

Their Arena Tour will begin on February 5, 2014 at the Nagoya City Hall, and move onto Yokohama Arena on February 8 and 9, Osaka Central Gym Main Arena on the 13th, and Fukuoka International Center on the 18th, for a total of 5 performances.

Teen Top recently held their 'Teen Top ZEPP Tour 2013 - Fly High' from December 3rd to the 10th. They performed 6 times in a total of 5 cities, including Nagoya, Namba (Osaka), Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Tokyo.
