‘Parks And Recreation’ Season 7 Renewal Confirmed Despite Low Ratings; Amy Poehler Signs Three-Year Producing Deal With NBC

"Parks and Recreation" will be back for season 7! The renewal of "Parks And Recreation" has been confirmed despite its low ratings, and may be due to Amy Poehler signing a three-year producing deal with NBC.

"I'll go out on a limb: Parks and Rec is going to have a seventh season," NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said Sunday at the network's Television Critics Association winter previews, after a reporter questioned him for previously saying he was "bullish" on the chances of a "Parks and Recreation" season 7 renewal.

"Thursday night is a challenge for us," Greenblatt added.

Ratings for "Parks and Recreation" have never been high, but the series has a devoted fan base. Parks and Recreation's first season averaged six million viewers in the US, while season 5 only had around four million. Last week's episode of "Parks and Recreation" season 6 had about three million viewers.

NBC is likely keen on keeping Amy Poehler's show due to the three-year producing deal it just signed with the actress, Seattlepi.com reports. NBC also earlier revealed a pilot order for a new comedy produced by the Golden Globes co-host Amy Poehler and starring "Orange is the New Black" actress Natasha Lyonne, ScreenCrush.com reports.

The working title of the HBO series is "Old Soul"; Lyonne will play a woman who is trying to find herself and, in the meantime, working as the aide to a group of elderly people, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Poehler also just won her first Golden Globe for her starring role in "Parks and Recreation." The series was one of only two comedies to return to NBC's lineup for the 2013-14 season, The Hollywood Reporters notes.
