Marvel Studios revealed how they decided to film Avengers 2 in Seoul.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korean Tourism Organization Public Institution and Film Council held a press conference with Marvel Studios at the Seoul Press Center International Conference Hall on the 19th to sign a memorandum of understanding to film Avengers 2: Age of Ultron in Seoul.
Mitchell Bell, the VP of Marvel Studios, stated, "It wasn't easy choosing where we would film the movie. After long contemplation we decided to come to Korea. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige visited Korea to promote Thor 2 last year, and announced that Korea would be the ideal location to film Avengers 2. He also shared that Korea is a really beautiful place. We did not expect this to become a reality so soon."
He continued, "Director Josh Whedon also very much enjoyed his visit to Korea. Director Josh Whedon also shared that he was very happy to be able to film the movie in the beautiful and charming Korea, and because he'll be able to share Korea's beauty to viewers worldwide."
Avengers 2 will be filmed from March 30th to April 14th at the Seoul Mapo Bridge, Floating Island, World Cup Sangam Digital Media City Expressway, Cheongdam Bridge, parts of Kangnam, Mullaedong's steel streets, and streets near University of the Arts in Kyewon.
The authorities revealed the plans where the filming would take place, and the memorandum of understanding laid out Marvel Studios filming footage, as well as local and international cooperation and assistance, incentives, support content and production costs. Marvel Studios also agreed to depict Korea in a positive light through the film's contents, and allowed promotional videos of those contents.
Avengers 2 is a sequel to the 2012 movie Avengers, and will be directed by Josh Whedon once again. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Helmsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evens, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson will star in the film. Korean actress Soohyun will also act alongside the Hollywood actors in the film. The movie is scheduled for release in April of 2015.
