Kim Jaejoong and Im Siwan, idols with huge fandoms, have made surprising transformations. And fans love it.

Kim Jaejoong and Im Siwan are acting with 'older brother' Lee Bum Soo in MBC's new drama "Triangle" as three siblings. "Triangle" is about 3 brothers who lose their parents in an accident, and are then scattered. For over twenty years they live without a clue as to who or where their siblings are. The story shows the brothers coming back together. Kim Jaejoong takes on the role of petty thug Heo Dong Chul, who is referred to as the 'casino board trash.' When he was younger, he his brother Jang Dong Soo (Lee Bum Soo) left, and his younger brother was adopted. He then decided to shed his real name Jang Dong Chul and lived his life as a petty thug. Of the three brothers, youngest Im Siwan was adopted into a wealthy chaebol family, where he no longer used the same Jang Dong Woo, and instead became Yoon Yang Ha. He was set to become the heir of a conglomerate. Unaware that they are brothers, Heo Dong Chul and Yoon Yang Ha meet through casino dealer Oh Jung Hee (Baek Jin Hee), and both become rivals for her heart. These idol singers turned actors are challenging themselves to yet another area of acting, and there's great interest as to how their performances will pan out.

The "Triangle" press conference was held on the 30th at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Seoul. PD Yoo Chul Yong revealed his reason for casting these specific two actors, and showed faith in them. He said, "Kim Jaejoong is an actor that has a unique attraction. He has a very gentle and nice image, but his gaze has a raw feel to it. I thought he would do well playing the thug role." He also said, "Since this is a role that is unlike anything else he's done before, we had many conversations about the character he would be playing, and now he is taking on his role very well."

PD Yoo also noted Im Siwan's non-rookie-like acting talent. He referred to Im Siwan's acting in the "The Lawyer," and said, "I wanted to draw the image of a youngest yet manly character, and Im Siwan has that very kind of appeal."

Even by just their looks Kim Jaejoong and Im Siwan gave off an unfamiliar aura. In the highlight videos and posters Kim Jaejoong and Im Siwan's images weren't like that of idol stars, but that of actors.

Kim Jaejoong said, "In this drama I don't have a great image," and laughed lightly. He continued, "In the drama, I'm pushed into a pit, get beat up, and even get coal thrown on me. In previous works I played characters that I hadn't lived out, but since the character of Heo Yang Dal exudes humanity, I feel very intimate with the character and have had it easy with acting this role."

Later this year Kim Jaejoong is planning to release an album with JYJ then get enrolled in the military. "Triangle" will most likely be his last project before he enlists in the military. He said, "The moment I saw the synopsis, I really wanted to star in the drama. I made the decision because I want to challenge myself to a variety of characters."

In "Triangle," Im Siwan plays a character who is almost evil. More than just being concerned with the character transformation, Im Siwan said he was more burdened with the adult role. He said, "Until now I've played the child role, usually for the first few episodes, but for the first time I'll be appearing in the entirety of the work, so it's burdensome. In order to emerge from that burden, I'm doing my best."

When asked the secret to success in each of his works, he said, "The advantage to being a rookie is that even if you make mistakes or fall down, you don't get hurt very much. With that mindset, I will tackle this upcoming project very diligently, with passion, and joy." He continued, "In The Lawyer I thought that the role of Jinwoo was something I had to overcome, but I realized it was something that I just needed to accept. So I will accept the 'Triangle' character Yoon Yang Ha just as it is, and try harder to play out that role."

Im Siwan's group ZE:A is planning for a comeback in late May. He said, "Whether it's an album or drama, I think it's right to focus on only one, but it can't always be that way. I will make good use of my town so I don't lose either of these."

"Triangle" will air its first broadcast on May 5th, to follow "Empress Ki."
