Mourning Of Sewol Ferry Incident Continues At L.A. 'Korean Music Festival', 'Healing Through Music'

On May 3, the 12th annual 'Korean Music Festival' was held at the Hollywood Bowl.

The crowd and the singers were able to heal and grieve together through music after the Sewol ferry tragedy.

This festival has always sold out since 2003, but the ambience of the concert was very different his year.

Concertgoers focused primarily on being surrounded by the music to mourn the tragic incident. Prayers were held for the victims and survivors of the capsized ferry.

Even foreigners who attended this concert mourned with others in the audience and showed their respect.

Many of the singers also wore their yellow ribbons (in support of the Yellow Ribbon Campaign) to respect those lost and hurt by the tragedy. They also sang encouraging songs to try and bring a bit of hope back to those who are currently grieving.

This 4 hour concert included performances by In Soon Yi, Crayon Pop, EXO-M, Dal Shabet, B1A4 and more.

Details continue to surface in regards to the Sewol ferry.

It has been reported that the capsized vessel exceeded its cargo limit on 246 trips, most of the voyages in which it reported cargo, in the past 13 months before it sank, according to the New York Daily News.

South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won has held himself responsible for the incident and has resigned from his position.

15 crewmembers along with the captain of the Sewol are currently under investigation. Anger has deepend amongst the famlies and citizens of South Korea as it was revealed that the crewmembers, including the captain, were the first ones to be rescued.

The death toll has now risen to 242 people as divers discovered six more bodies early Sunday, according to ITAR-TASS. 60 passengers still remain missing.

After the tragedy of the sunken Sewol, the oceans ministry in South Korea has been considering taking the job of overseeing passenger-ship safety away from the shipping assocation, according to Fox News.

Ministry Official Kwon Jun-young stated that they are still discussing which agency should be responsible for the job.
