‘The X Factor’ Victor Dami Im ‘I Will Become A Singer That Brings Hope’

After her win on Australian audition program "The X Factor," Dami Im took her first formal step to become a singer. She said, "I want to become a singer that gives hope."

Dami Im held a showcase and press conference on the 7th in Seoul. She sang the songs that swept the audience of their feet during the audition program, as well her new song "Super Love." Through her interview she revealed, "The new song is a positive song that includes love. I want to bring hope and joy to many people."

Born in 1988, Dami Im immigrated to Australia at 9 years old. Since then, she's been active as a gospel singer both in Australia and in Korea. She majored as a jazz vocalist in college, and sang at small and large events. She then became the first ever Asian winner on "The X Factor."

When asked about the biggest change since appearing on the show, she answered "Influence." She said, "Many people recognize me in Australia. Many Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Lebanon, and African immigrants are repressed or intimidated, and I was one of those people. But now that I've become the victor, it's become my strength. I often hear that I'm now standing tall."

Dami Im is a symbol of hope for many in Australia. At the showcase she showed off her strong vocal skills that moved so many people in Australia, and proved her talent.

Dami Im wore a lavender dress onstage, and sang Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" for her first song. The image of her playing the piano and singing was like that of a talented live singer. Her explosive vocals contrasted very well against the gentle piano sound, and left a strong first impression. When the song ended, Dami Im announced that the song was dedicated to the Sewol tragedy victims' families.

Afterward, she sang "Alive" and Lee Juk's "I'm Fortunate." Her rendition of "Alive" showed off a different charm to the singer, especially with the lively beat. She rode the grooves freely with her voice, and adjusted the strength of her vocals very well. Listeners enjoyed her charming voice.

Dami Im revealed that her favorite singers are BoA, Lee Juk, and Kim Dong Ryool. So it's no surprise that she sang Lee Juk's song. "I'm Fortunate" highlighted the sweet side of her voice. Despite having immigrated to Australia at the young age of nine, Dami has enjoyed listening to K-pop. She surprisingly was able to sing all the Korean words very clearly, even accurately capturing the songs' emotions.

At the press conference, "The X Factor" judge and Dami Im's mentor Dannii Minogue was present. She asked, "How does it feel to be back in Korea?" Dami Im answered, "More than anything I'm happy, and it's a meaningful time. I'm really happy to have come back to Korea, where my roots lie." She continued, "Given the opportunity, I want to release an album in Korea, too."

Dami Im's new song "Super Love" will be released on the 16th.
