Why Lee Chan Hyuk Of Akdong Musician Has No Plans To Start Drinking: 'To Remain Pure' He Says

The road to teenage superstardom may be known to include a stop in rehab or two, but Akdong Musician singer, guitarist and producer Lee Chan Hyuk has no plans to get in touch with his inner party animal.

In an interview in Seoul on Monday, with the South Korean publication Osen, Lee explained that though several veteran K-pop stars have expressed an eagerness to drink with him in the future, the male half of Akdong Musician has politely declined.

"When I meet other singers older than me, they often say, 'I will buy you drinks when you become an adult. You can write different kinds of songs after enjoying drinks,'" Lee recalled.

"But every time, I have politely refused, saying, 'I will not drink alcohol when I become an adult.' I don't want to create something with the help of alcohol. To remain pure, I will not drink alcohol at all."

The 17-year-old singer-songwriter also explained he and his 15-year-old sister and bandmate Lee Soo Hyun's decision to donate all of their winnings from "K-Pop Star 2," the reality singing competition that skyrocketed them to fame, to several charity organizations.

"When our mom and dad asked us about how we were going to use the money, both of us said without hesitation that we would donate it to charity, because we had been thinking about donating our winnings from the beginning." he said.

"Our mom and dad were more exited than we were when they heard about our decision. After making the donation, I have become so glad that I decided to pursue music."

Yet, Akdong Musician's generosity left the brother-sister duo scrambling for cash when the taxman came calling.

"We didn't know that there was tax imposed on the prize money and donated all of our winnings, including what we were supposed to pay in taxes," he said. "So now, we are saving money to pay for the tax."
