Aaron Hernandez Murder Case Trial [UPDATE]: New England Patriots Faces Lawuit In Former Tight End’s Charges; Victims’ Families Seeks Compensation For Killings

Aaron Hernandez murder case trial takes an unexpected turn when his former team, the New England Patriots, was dragged into the controversy after the families of two of his victims wants to take away the tight end's source of income.

The New England Patriots, and parent company Kraft Enterprises, found themselves being dragged into the Aaron Hernandez murder case trial after they were named co-defendants in the $6 million wrongful-death civil suit filed by the families of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, CNN reported.

The attorney for the $6 million civil suit wants to enjoin the New England Patriots in paying the $3.25 million to Aaron Hernandez per his contract. The spokesperson of the team did not issue any statement.

According to ESPN, the attorney, William Kennedy, also wanted to freeze all the assets of Aaron Hernandez.

When Aaron Hernandez was arrested in June 2013 and later charged in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd, the New England Patriots still owned him $6.21 million in guaranteed money, said CBS Sports, which also included the $3.25 million for his signing bonus.

When it was clear that Aaron Hernandez could not play for a while, the New England Patriots refused to pay him money resulting to a complaint filed by the NFL Players Association on his behalf. With the Aaron Hernandez's murder case indictment, however, that complaint provided the Patriots with "the upper hand," CBS added.

A grand jury indicted the star tight end in relation to the killings of Daniel de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Furtado, 28, both of Dorchester, Mass., who were gunned down in Boston's South End, Washington Post reported.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said that Aaron Hernandez "stalked, ambushed and senselessly murdered" the two men without conscience.

"He then carried the deed so lightly on his conscience that he was able to joke about what he did on his summer vacation in interviews with NFL reporters," the Postadded.
