Tom Hanks And Meg Ryan’s ‘Ithaca’ Delayed Due To Steven Spielberg’s New Movie About Cold War Spy?

Tom Hanks is chased by Meg Ryan and Steven Spielberg nowadays to make new movies. But when it comes to movie projects, it looks like Steven Spielberg takes priority! Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg's new cold war thriller got the final co-financing deal from Fox, which pushes the filming date to early September. Meg Ryan has been hoping to cast Tom Hanks as the lead in her directorial debut, 'Ithaca'. Guess 'You've Got Mail' star Meg Ryan will have to wait!

Tom Hanks' movie with Steven Spielberg is moving at the speed of light. According to Variety, the movie is "based on the true story of James Donovan, whom Hanks will portray. Donovan was the American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to surreptitiously negotiate the 1962 release of Francis Gary Powers, the U2 spy plane pilot who had been shot down over Russia two years earlier."

The U.S. release date is now set for October 16, 2015 and the revisions by the Coen brothers are ready to go for September shooting. But they don't even have the title of the movie yet!

Looks like Meg Ryan is ahead of them on that point. 'Ithaca' is an adaptation of William Saroyan's 1940s novel 'The Human Comedy'. Set during World War II, the film "tells the story of a teenage boy in a small California town, who is left to care for his family after the death of his father and the departure of his older brother for the war," according to the Us Magazine.

Meg Ryan, of course, will star opposite Tom Hanks. That is, if the 57-year-old actor is still on board.

Hopefully she won't be devastated by the news! 'Ithaca' was supposed to be a return to Hollywood for the 52-year-old actress, whose last silver screen appearance was in 2009's 'Serious Moonlight'.

Steven Spielberg should be a happy camper. He hasn't done movies in a while either, the last being the much-lauded 'Lincoln'. And to his defense, Tom Hanks has been his partner-in-crime as much as Meg has been Tom's.

According to Variety, "Hanks and Spielberg have worked together on previous films 'Saving Private Ryan,' 'Catch Me if You Can' and 'The Terminal'".
