Meet North Korea's Girls' Generation [VIDEO]

Girls' Generation has a worldwide fandom, and while North Korea does not condone the K-pop scene, they too have their own version of the popular girl group.

Meet The Wang Je San Light Music Band, who is allegedly North Korea's top girl group. According to Hellokpop, each member was personally selected by Kim Jon Il, and the current leader Kim Jong Un's wife is also a part of the band.

And while SM Entertainment has been known for their "slave contracts," North Korea takes it a step further, as the girl group members are committed to the group for life due to fear of government and security leaks.

"Looking at this is just, well, creepy," commented Russ on Hellokpop. "I keep expecting the camera to pan to the audience and see them chained to the chairs with their eyes propped open by some mechanical thing."

Some observers also don't quite see the connection to Girls' Generation.

"No, not like Girls' Generation," wrote Warren Lauzon on YouTube. "Not a bad performance, but hardly K-pop."

"How are they a K-pop group?" asked FruityHachi. "They do not sing, only dance. So they're just a dance group."

Last August, Korean publication Chosun Ilbo reported that Kim Jong Un's alleged girlfriend who was a part of the band was executed by firing squad along with a dozen other North Korean performers from The Wang Je San Light Music Band and the Unhasu Orchestra.

"They were executed with machine guns while the key members of the Unhasu Orchestra, Wang Je San Light Band and Moranbong Band as well as the families of the victims looked on," said a source.

The reason for the executions was allegedly due to a violation of the North Korean laws against pornography. As a result, The Wang Je San Light Music Band is allegedly disbanded.
