Ladies' Code Singer Kwon 'RiSe' Ri Sae, Dead At 23

Kwon Ri Se, popularly known as RiSe of the K-pop girl group Ladies' Code, died on Sunday, September 7 at the age of 23.

On September 3, RiSe was critically injured after the van carrying the members of Ladies' Code hit an expressway wall at 1:30 a.m. KST. RiSe remained in a coma until she succumbed to her injuries at 10:10 a.m. at Aju University Hospital. She is the second member of Ladies' Code to pass away due to the accident, after EunB.

"At the time of the accident on [September 3], RiSe obtained a big injury to her head and was moved to the hospital," read a statement by Ladies' Code's record label Polaris Entertainment.

"She was operated on as much as possible for a long time, but she has ultimately passed away. Her parents, who came from Japan, and the label employees stayed with her at the end. We are sorry to give more sad news since the late EunB and we cannot hide our sorrow."

Prior to her debut with Ladies' Code, RiSe gained popularity by participating in Miss Korea 2009 as a representative of her native country Japan. She further advanced her career by finishing in the Top 12 of the talent show "Birth of a Great Star" in 2011.

RiSe joined Ladies' Code under Polaris Entertainment in 2013. After a series of singles and mini-albums, the girl group released their full-length album "Kiss Kiss" on August 7.

According to allkpop, many of RiSe's close friends and family attended the funeral service at Seoul Memorial Park on September 9, including K-pop idol group members from KARA, B1A4, Boys Republic, BESTie, M.I.B, Two X and Wassup.

In addition, her friends from "Birth of a Great Star" also reportedly paid their respects, including David Oh, Roh Ji Hoon, Son Jin Young, Lee Tae Kwon, Baek Chung Kang and mentor Lee Eun Mi.

According to Sports Chosun, RiSe's ashes will be laid to rest in Japan.
