Yang Hyun Suk Apologizes For YG Entertainment Scandals Ahead Of Year-End Award Shows

The CEO of YG Entertainment appeared on a Korean television show and admitted that he was sorry for the scandals several YG Entertainment artists were embroiled in throughout 2014.

Yang Hyun Suk, the founder and CEO of YG Entertainment, and former pop star himself, appeared on the December 1 episode of SBS's Healing Camp, where he addressed the issues that had plagued his company in 2014. The CEO apologized in regards to the scandals revolving around drugs, car accidents, and legal issues that members of Big Bang, 2NE1, and other YG Entertainment artists were part of.

"First of all, I'm embarrassed. They were all things that could not be excused," said Yang Hyun Suk. "I should've managed them more explicitly so I would like to once again apologize for that."

Yang Hyun Suk's answer came in response to Yoo Hee Yeol, a popular singer and MC in South Korea, as well as one of Yang's co-judges for the reality singing competition show K-Pop Star. Yoo Hee Yeol had asked what Yang Hyun Suk thought about YG Entertainment becoming an icon of scandal in 2014.

On a whole, 2014 saw many headline-grabbing incidents in the K-Pop industry, including legal suits, deaths, and scandals. YG Entertainment was involved in several of these incidents.

2NE1's Park Bom was embroiled in scandal when the media reported on a drug incident from 2010, and Big Bang's Seungri was seriously injured in a car accident.

Several YG Entertainment artists were also in the news for personal scandals, including rumors about trainees with bully (or iljin) pasts, and family connections with businessmen involved in corporate scandals.

G-Dragon, one of YG Entertainment's most popular icons, also was involved in a small drug scandal, and has continuously denied his rumored relationship with a Japanese-Korean actress with reportedly right-wing views that have come under fire.

Both Big Bang and 2NE1 were also rumored to be going through personal issues that have led to some outlets questioning the future of both groups.

YG Entertainment has also allegedly had articles about scandals removed from Internet searches in South Korea to reduce visibility.

Yang Hyun Suk's explanation comes prior to year-end-award shows, where few YG Entertainment artists will be making appearances.
