Her statement was translated in an article written by Koreaboo, in which she said, “It has been six years since I joined After School. In retrospect, there were a lot of moments filled with laughter and sadness.”

The announcement of her graduation followed speculation driven by fans after a series of mysterious photos were posted in November. Insiders confirmed Jooyeon’s departure as her contract was set to expire on December 31.

Through their statement, Pledis Entertainment expressed that the decision of her graduation was mutual. Jooyeon will use the time gained from her departure to prepare for her upcoming role in the musical, “The Man from Earth.”

Jooyeon was one of the last remaining “first generation” or “first class” members of After School. In 2009, Soyoung departed from the group, followed by Bekah in 2011 and Kahi in 2012.

After School is unique in that there is a graduation process which allows members to amicably depart from the group, with newer members placed in their spot.
