Kim Hyun Joong Reportedly Indicted On Assault Charges By Seoul Prosecutor's Office

Popular Korean singer-actor Kim Hyun Joong has reportedly been summarily indicted for causing physical harm to a former girlfriend.

The Seoul District Public Prosecutor's Office announced on January 19 that Kim Hyun Joong was indicted on charges relating to harming his ex. The Prosecutors' Office is seeking 5 million won (around $4,630 USD) in fines.

ENews World reported someone associated with the District Prosecutors' Office saying, "Kim Hyun Joong has been summarily indicted after he hit his girlfriend, A, in May of 2014, requiring two weeks to recover, and again, in July during a verbal dispute, leaving her with an injury requiring six weeks to recover."

"In July, he was charged for these two accounts of assault, but the lawsuit was dropped," the source explained. "While the overall assault case was settled, the two accounts of assault that can′t be prosecuted by law were not indicted, and regarding the injuries and harm caused by the attacks, they were summarily indicted."

The lawsuit was dropped following a formal apology from Kim Hyun Joong towards his ex-girlfriend.

The apology, posted on Kim Hyun Joong's official website, read as follows:

"I'm deeply sorry for inflicting so much emotional and physical pain on the one that I loved and trusted for two years. I've done something that I never should have done as a man. This has occurred due to my actions, so please don't direct any judgment towards her."

Kim Hyun Joong debuted as a member of SS501 in 2005, and shot to international fame for his role in the 2009 Korean drama Boys Over Flowers. He has since taken on multiple acting roles and undertaken a career as a solo artist. Three members of SS501 recently reunited for a concert held by the Seoul Police Team, but Kim Hyun Joong and fellow member Park Jungmin.

The singer has plans to release a Japanese album in February.
