Kanye West Group Reportedly Prepares Seoul Office With Eyes Set On K-Pop

Kanye West, at least his business group, will be entering the music industry in South Korea.

Kanye West Creative Team, which is linked to the American rapper, announced that it will be establishing a new joint-venture in South Korea sometime in 2015. The venture will be known as 10-Jones, and will be Kanye West Creative Team’s first project in Asia.

The Wall Street Journal reported that 10-Jones will focus on being an agency that will bring overseas musicians to Korea while also seeking new talent in Asia. 10-Jones will also be launching a fashion brand.

10-Jones reportedly released a statement saying that it is also planning to bring Korean musicians overseas, whether it is by working with established K-pop singers, or else by discovering and promoting new artists.

Currently, 10-Jones has plans to bring Drake and Iggy Azalea to Asia.

The company will be headed by Grammy award-winning producer Malik Yusef Jones, according to The Korea Times.

Several foreign entertainment companies and artists have started to push towards working with K-pop artists, including Jackie Chan whose company launched its own idol group, JJCC. Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, Louis Vuitton’s company, also invested in South Korean music, by announcing a multi-million dollar investment in YG Entertainment, one of South Korea’s top entertainment companies.

Sony and Universal Music also have ventures in South Korea.

Kanye West and Malik Yusef Jones previously collaborated with Korean idol group JYJ for the group's debut song, "Ayyy Girl" in 2010. It is unknown whether the two have any further plans for personal collaborations in South Korea, or if JYJ will be working closely with 10-Jones.
