Former Marine Eddie Ray Routh Found Guilty For Murder Of 'American Sniper' Chris Kyle And Chad Littlefield [PHOTO]

This past Tuesday night, former Marine and Iraq War vet Eddie Ray Routh was found guilty for the shooting deaths of "American Sniper" Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield. According to CNN, no one disputed that Routh shot the two men, but his attorneys were trying to convince the jury that Routh was not sane during his rampage.

Defense attorney J. Warren St. John said of Routh, "He killed those men because he had a delusion. He believed in his mind that they were going to kill him."  However, prosecutor Jane Starnes answered back in her closing arguments, "Ladies and gentleman, that is not insanity. That is just cold, calculated capital murder. He is guilty of capital murder. He is not in any way insane."

The damage done to both Kyle and Littlefield certainly sounds deliberate - Kyle was shot four times in the back and once in the face, while Littlefield was shot five times in the back. However, Routh's murder motive remains unclear.

Gene Cole, an officer in the Erath County Jail, testified that he heard Routh say, "I shot them because they wouldn't talk to me. I was just riding in the back seat of the truck and nobody would talk to me. They were just taking me to the range so I shot them. I feel bad about it, but they wouldn't talk to me. I'm sure they've forgiven me."

USA Today reports that the jury of 10 women and two men took about two hours to convict Routh in the murder of Kyle and Littlefield at an upscale shooting range near Fort Worth on Feb. 2, 2013. Routh was then sentenced to life in prison in the Texas criminal justice system without possibility for parole.

After the verdict and sentencing, Littlefield's stepbrother Jerry Richardson read a statement directed at Routh. He said, "Because of you and your irresponsible choices, we lost a great son, brother, father, husband and uncle. Your inhumanity and disregard for life have put you in a world [from which] you'll never escape."
