K-Pop Crossover: Former My Chemical Romance Singer Gerard Way Raves About G-Dragon To Twitter Followers
My Chemical K-Pop Romance?
Fans of K-Pop and American singer Gerard Way were surprised when the former My Chemical Romance front man professed his love for the leader of Korean idol group Big Bang, G-Dragon on April 19. Throughout the day, Way spoke about listening to G-Dragon and how he found his way to K-pop.
Way also pointed out that the visual elements of My Chemical Romance and K-pop led to overlap between fans of his former group and the genre.
The musician began tweeting early in the morning EST about listening to G-Dragon and enjoying the music.

Shortly after, Way tweeted that a friend pointed out to him that many of his fans from My Chemical Romance also enjoyed K-pop.
Way had an answer to that.
“I was shocked,” he wrote, “but then it made sense because I felt that MCR always worked in Japan and Asia because of our strong visual representation.”
Each of Way’s numerous tweets throughout the day about K-pop and G-Dragon were favorited thousands of times and received thousands of retweets.
Ten hours after the original Tweet, Way announced that he was still listening to G-Dragon. He even tweeted a picture of the Big Bang leader and solo artist from G-Dragon's "Coup D'Etat" era.
Gerard Way then thanked his friend Kitty, the drummer for the band Mindless Self Indulgence, for introducing him to K-pop years ago.
So @kittymsi introduced me to kpop years ago and I was instantly blown away, was casually following but now getting very into it — Gerard Way (@gerardway) April 19, 2015
