Block B's Zico Takes On Idol Rapper Imitators In New Remix 'My Team'

The leader of Korean idol group Block B has something to say to the Kpop idols who use his name to get attention.

Zico, an underground rapper who became popular after debuting with Block B in 2011, released a new song on June 6. The rap song, "My Team (Remix,)" was released on Soundcloud, and is a diss track by Zico that calls out new idol rappers.

"My Team" criticizes new rappers for copying Zico's style and then saying that they are his style.

"Everyone and their mothers say they're my rival," raps Zico in the song, "When it's hard enough for me to challenge myself."

Zico did not call out any rappers specifically for mimicking him, but did hold up Jay Park and himself as rappers who made their own way.

He also made use of puns, highlighting the fact that the romanization of his stage name is the same as a brand of pure coconut water.

Since being released, Zico's rap has been listened to over 100,000 times.

Many K-pop idol rappers have cited Zico as inspiration. In May, the newly debuted rookie group Monsta X came under fire when one member criticized Zico after one of the group's rappers, Jooheon, was asked about his similarities to Zico. Monsta X rapper Jooheon has drawn many comparisons with Zico.

Jooheon is appearing as a contestant on Mnet's Show Me The Money 4, a rap-based hip-hop competition show where Zico is featured as a judge alongside Tablo, Jinsean, Verbal Jint, San-E, Paloalto, Loco, and Jay Park.
